Five persons were arrested early yesterday afternoon on charges of breaking and entering, car conversion and theft from cars. They will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Four late model cars of a total value of £2750 were taken from a Durham street parking lot on Tuesday night This brought the number of car conversions in the past four days to 12. A 1942 Army Indian motorcycle, number 60-631. was taken from outside 232 Waimairi road on Tuesday night An appeal was made by a senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Branch yesterday, for car owners to assist police by making sure their vehicles are securely locked, the windows shut and the keys not left in the ignition. Four cars were taken on Friday night, three on Saturday night and one on Monday night. All but one have been found undamaged. The one still missing is a 1954 Ford Zephyr, taken from outside a house in Swanns road on Monday night Its number is 1324-059.
