Lieutenant-Colonel S. H. Johnson, the first head of the New Zealand Army Education Corps, will retire from the Army today As Director of Army Education and Welfare Services since 1953 he was instrumental in the formation of the Education Corps as a separate entity within the New Zealand Army. Joining the territorial force in 1928. LieutenantColonel Johnson accepted a short service commission in the Regular Army in 1948, as Deputy Assistant Director of the AX.W.S. for Northern Military District.
