ELECTION DAY
Minister Refuses To Be Drawn (.New Zealand Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, Sept 20. An attempt by the DeputyLeader of the Opposition (Mr Marshall) to draw the Minister of Justice (Mr Mason) on the election date failed in the House of Representatives tonight. The House was discussing the Justice Department estimates, which contain an item of £129.000 for the coat of the-election. Mr Marshall said he did not think the House should be asked to vote this money before it knew when the election was going to be. Mr J. M. Deas (Government Otahuhu): It’s this year. Mr Marshall: Yes, I know It’s this year And 1 suppose the Government is trying to postpone it as long as it can. “I don’t know that I can say anything useful about the election date," Mr Mason said. "The honourable member knows all the elements and can weigh one against the other and draw his own conclusions.” Mr Marshall: My guess is November 26 But Mr Mason refused to be drawn.
