Winning Tickets Found On Course
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 20. Many schoolboys and racegoers on Sunday morning are said to have picked up more than £2OO worth of totalisator tickets thrown away by disappointed punters at the Auckland trotting meeting at Epsom on Saturday night. Most of the tickets were from bets placed on the second race, the Grey Lynn Handicap. An inquiry was held into the running of the event, but before the result of it was announced many punters had thrown their totalisator tickets away. Most of these were win tickets on Sarbom, which was second past the post and later promoted to first When the inquiry was completed, the first horse, Student Prince, was relegated to fourth and the second, third and fourth place-getters each moved up a place. It was reported that one boy picked up about £lOO worth of tickets, another 10 £1 tickets, and one ot the ’too hasty” punters of the night before found £6* worth. The punter had thrown away £5 worth of tickets before the result of the inquiry was announced. Sarborn paid £9 18s for a win and £2 12s 6d for a place. Paysan Bleu, the second horse, paid £1 16s and the third horse, Maisie Direct, paid £1 14s.
