LITERARY GRANTS APPROVED

Achievement Award To Auckland Author (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. The following Literary Fund advisory committee approved recommendations for grants were announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Anderton). The award of achievement, valued at £lOO, to Mr O. E. Middleton, of Auckland, for his book of short stories “The Stone”; £l5O to Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., Christchurch, to assist publication of a new edition of “The Story of a New Zealand River,” by Jone Mander; £lOO to Mr Peter Bland, of Wellington, to assist him to travel overseas on writing projects; £75 to assist the literary publication “Mate.”
