CHILLER BEEF CONTEST
London Placings Announced

■Winning entries in this year’s annual chiller type beef competition sponsored by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board have been put on show at London’s Smithfield markets. Sixteen New Zealand agricultural districts entered the display, which was arranged by Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd. Six carcases from each district were selected in New Zealand and sent to London, where they were rejudged and placed in order of merit. They were assessed in both New Zealand and London on their suitability for the British market. The judges in London were Mr H. V. Gunton, of Wilson Meats. Ltd., Mr M. L. Foster, of Borthwick and Sons, and Mr G. Agutter, of the Co-operative Wholesale Society. Individual prizewinners were:—
Waikato No. 59, Aberdeen Angus, entered by Land and Survey Department, Rotorua, 1. Hawke’s Bay No. 67, Aberdeen Angus, entered by Mr Renton, of Hastings (a previous winner of the competition), 2. Canterbury No. 1544, Aberdeen Angus, from Mr J. Acland, of Mount Peel, 3. Central Hawke’s Bay No. 43, owner and breed not know, 4. Fifth and sixth were Wairoa No. 72, Aberdeen Angus, from Mr E. Powdrell, of Wairoa, and North Auckland No. 18, Hereford, from Mr R. Bindon, of Ohaeawai.
In district placings, the shield presented for one year by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board for the best district as a whole was won by Waikato with Hawke’s Bay second and Rangitikei third.
