Eastwood) was half a length back finishing six furlongs in Imin 16 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec.

A race at the Grand National meeting has advanced Studio in his preparation for a spring campaign. Water Boy (C. T. Wilson) and Quite Able (R. B. Taggart) showed pleasing dash in running a mile in Imin 44 2-ssec, the last half-mile in, 50 2-ssec. They could be good winners for C. G. Humphrie’s stable in the next few weeks.

Kelp (M. Wil d erm o th) and Thumper (G. Baldwin) took Imin 49 2-ssec for their mile, but went rather leisurely for a start. They ran their last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. Shoal (C. McDonald) and Gaytana (D. N. Hadfield) recorded Imin 45 l-ssec for their mile, accelerating for the last half mile in 50 4-ssec. Top Weight In Cup Shoal should be at her best for the Ashburton Cup, in which she is top weight with 9-4. Another win would carry her earnings into five figures. Magic Circle (G. W. Mein) and Corowa (O. Anning) ran home from the mile in Imin 45sec. They went evenly from the start, running the first half mile in 52 2-ssec. Vestment Lady (D. N. Hadfield) and Kaseno (A. J. Forsythe (W. Beck) ran a mile in Imin 47 3-ssec and the last half in 52 l-ssec. Pleasant Ways (R. B. Taggart) led Cheroot (E. B Skelton) by a length and a half finishing a fast sevenfurlong trial. Pleasant Ways recorded Imin 30 l-ssec, a smart gallop for a horse which has done much of his racing this year as a hurdler. Rustic’s Sprint Rustic (D. N. Hadfield) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 19 2-ssec. The Native (L. J. Ellis) joined in after a furlong and the stablemates ran the last half-mile in 51sec. Omaha (W. Hanlin) and Gambol (N. It will be surprising if she does not manage to improve a solid record on her spring campaign. Keep Time (P. J. Kempton) tore away from the mile . and dashed along the back to the half-mile in 49 4-ssec.

Portent (A. J. Stokes) slipped home from the half-mile in 50sec. It was an attractive sprint by this promising Lucky Bag filly. She is in the Lagmhor Stakes at Ashburton.

He finished fifth and was promoted to fourth. Finished Well Plcright (B. B. Skelton) trailed Amulette (W. Gibbs) and Cairo News (W. Hanlin) from the five furlongs to the straight but finished alongside them. They ran the last halfmile in 51 2-ssec. This gallop should have benefited Cairo News in particular. He blew hard after.
