tNew teaiana Press Associations ASHBURTON, Sept. 4. A sustained second-spell drive by South Canterbury ended Mid-Can-terbury’s four-ye ar tenure of the Hanan Shield at Ashburton yesterday. South Canterbury won by 13 points to 6. Mid-Canterbury held the strong opposition 3-3 at half-time, but was on the defensive for most of the second half. It was Mid-Canterbury’s tenth defence of the shield since the side won it from South Canterbury at the end of the 1956 season. Scorers were:— ’ South Canterbury: M. D. Watson (try, penalty, two conversions), G. McLaughlin, try. Mid-Canterbury: A. H. Smith (two penalties).
