MEAT PRICES INCREASED

Reef, Hogget And

Mutton

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 1. Increases in the prices of beef, hogget and mutton in all South Island districts and decreases in the price of frozen pork are authorised to become effective from Monday next by an order gazetted tonight First grade beef is increased Id per lb in all South Island districts, except Otago, where the August prices will be maintained.

Hogget is up 2d per lb in Marlborough, Nelson. Westland and Canterbury and Id per lb in Otago and Southland. First grade mutton is increased id per lb in all South Island districts.

Differences in price between fresh and frozen pork are announced in the order. In Nelson. Canterbury. Westland and Marlborough frozen pork is to be sold 2d per lb cheaper than fresh, but in Otago and Southland the same prices may be charged for each. Because effective control over lamb prices is not feasible during the period, the existing order has been amended so that price control will not operate on lamb during September, October and November.
