Erosion
Sir, —Concerning your editorial in today’s issue on erosion, would it be possible to get the runholders in the back country to prick in a few larch seeds here and there in places stock cannot reach? I recently saw a larch •tree many miles away from a parent tree on a mountain side (a chance seed that had fallen in a favourable place). Since the rabbit pest has been controlled there is a forest of young larch springing up all round. I think it would be worth while. The larch, being deciduous, is a good soil-builder. A few ounces would go a long way.—Yours, etc., OBSERVER. August 31, 1960.
