Disabled Servicemen
Sir, —No doubt here, as in England, two wars have left their sorry legacy of disabled ex-ser-vicemen whose infirmities, one imagines, are a constant source of concern to their old comrades, whether of the British Legion or R.S.A. It may be of interest, therefore, to recount that on April 4, the British Minister of Health announced his intention of making available small cars for disabled servicemen formerly provided with power-propelled tricycles. Furthermore, there is a
movement afoot in England to urge the provision of similar amenities for other categories, e.g., paraplegics, of incapacitated people. It would be hard to believe that the disabled warriors of this country deserve less consideration than their counterparts
at home; still harder to accept any specious plea that New Zealand is too poor a country to indulge in such luxuries.—Yours, etc., M.T. August 24, 1960.
