CAUGHT PLAYING FAN TAN
11 Chinese Fined At Auckland (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 24. Eleven Chinese charged with gaming offences appeared in the Magistrate's Court at Auckland this afternoon. They were charged after a police raid on a shop in Greys avenue earlier in the day. Mr G. A. Dallow. the police prosecutor, said the charges were "just the usual charges relating to the playing of fan tan.” He said £lB6 9s was seized by police, with counters and other gaming equipment. Each man pleaded guilty. Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., fined Wong Sow Chong £35 with costs for using premises of which he had the use as a common gaming house. It was accused’s second offence of this nature which he had acknowledged, said the Magistrate.
Wong Kong, aged 62, was fined £2O for assisting Wong Sow Chong in the operation of a common gaming house. Nine others were fined £2, £3 or £4 for being found in a common gaming house. The Magistrate ordered the return of the money which was seized and the confiscation of the equipment.
