Oscar Hammerstein Mourned

Performers and the public today mourned Oscar Hammerstein 11. One of the all-time great librettists of the American theatre. Mr Hammerstein died of caneer his farm home in Pennsylvania early today.
Tributes poured in today to the man whose songs have brought laughter and t tears to the world for 40 years. The composer, Richard Rodgers, Mr Hammerstein’s longtime partner, said simply: “I am permanently grieved.” Members of the United States Senate in Washington paused to eulogise him as “an inspiration to all artists.”
