N.I.M.U. To Ask For Increase

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 24. The council of the North Island Motor Union agreed today that penalties now being imposed for Mnotor-vehicle . conversion, including ordering the payment of compensation to owners, were not sufficiently severe to act as a deterrent. -It was decided, on the motion of Mr H. W. Dowling (Hawke’s Bay), to put this view to the Minister of Justice (Mr Mason) and also to express the opinion to the Minister that in addition to existing provisions a charge of theft should be laid where circumstances warranted. , Mr N. F. Little (Taranaki) said that not enough use was being made of the power to order reparation for damage done. The provision should be strengthened to include also Some penalty for the loss of the use of a vehicle.
