MR R. G. FREAN, of the University of Canterbury, who is studying for a doctorate of philosophy in English at the University of Toronto. He has been awarded a Canada Council grant to enable him to complete his studies on the influence of Walter Pater on subsequent English writers. Mr Frean studied at Harvard University on a Frank Knox Fellowship in 1957-58 and was awarded a Canada Council non-resident fellowship, which was renewed to give him two years at Toronto.
