LAST SEASON’S WOOL CLIP
Production Up 6f Per Cent. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 23. The production of all wool—greasy, slipe and scoured—for the 1959-60 season was 577 million pounds, said the chairman of the Wool Commission (Mr G. A. Duncan) in his report to the annual meeting of the Electoral Committee of the Wool and Meat Boards today. He said that this represented an increase of 6} per cent, over the total production figure of 540 million pounds for the previous season. The total wool receipts for 1959-60 would amount to £lO7 million, compared with £Bl million for the previous season. The season’s wool clip opened up about average in quality, but with a smaller proportion of specialty and good wools than was usually available during the early part of the season. Seasonal faults of discolouration, irregular length and staple weakness were evident in a large proportion of the selection. The South Island offerings were affected by drought conditions during the growing season as were North Island clips from some districts.
The spread between the highest and the lowest point of the season was approximately 10 per cent, for Merinos and halfbreds and 12J per cent, for crossbreds with a steady movement of price variation within these limits.
