Schoolboys’ Chess Tourney
Nineteen boys from eight Christchurch schools are competing in the annual Canterbury schoolboys’ chess tournament. The winner and runnerup will play in the New Zealand schoolboys’ chess tournament at Palmerston North next week. Yesterday’s results were as follows : First Round.—P Baldwin (Shirley 8.H.5.) beat B. Dunn (St. Bede’s College); G. Smaill (Riccarton High School) beat D. Falgar (Chch. West High School); P. Blackstock (Chch. 8.H.5.) beat C. Richards (Papanui H.S.); N. Cooper (Chch. 8.H.5.) beat E.
