ELECTIONEERING STANDARDS
Methodist Synod’s Concern (New Zealand Preet Association) AUCKLAND, August 24. As voters, Methodist Church members should give consideration to the decline in political and electioneering standards. This statement was made in a report adopted by the Methodist Synod in Auckland today. The report said political issues had a basis in moral and spiritual convictions. It advised: “Rather than exercise their rights and responsibilities in a spirit of unquestioning party allegiance, electors and political candidates should examine detailed points of policy in the light of conscientious convictions.” If the present electioneering trend continued, there would be a resultant lowering of moral values, the report said.
