SCHOLARSHIP TO SORBONNE

City Graduate’s Two-Year Course

A post-graduate scholarship in arts will take Miss Glynnis Cropp, of Christchurch, to the heart of the Parisian Latin quarter. Miss Cropp leaves New Zealand on August 19 for two years’ study at the Sorbonne University. She will be living at a women’s student hostel in the Boulevard Saint Michel. A former head prefect of Christchurch Girls’ High School, Miss Cropp has recently completed her M.A. degree in, French at Canterbury University. For the subject of her thesis she chose the adolescent as portrayed in the modern French novel. In Christchurch, Miss Cropp has been an active member of the Canterbury University French Club and the Alliance Francaise. She has been generally concerned with the activities of the St. Barnabas Bible Class at Fendalton and the Student Christian Movement here. Lately she has been studying in the post-primary division of the Teachers’ Training College, but is undecided whether she will take up teaching on her return from Paris. In Paris, Miss Cropp will renew her friendship with Miss, Mary Radcliffe, who is doing research for her thesis at the Sorbonne. Miss Radcliffe is a former student of Canterbury University. While overseas, Miss Cropp hopes to see other parts of Europe and England. From New Zealand, she will travel by sea, in the Rangitane.
