Prevention Of Crime
Sir, —Could work be done at an earlier stage in the prevention of youthful crime? Perhaps doctors could lecture in schools on how unnecessary and foolish it is for lads, already full of energy, to take stimulants such as intoxicating liquor, and could tell of some of the sad and terrible accidents caused by an inflamed and excited brain. Then the busy traffic officers and policemen might also find time to warn boys about to leave school and to point out more sensible ways. All employers should be interested in the welfare of the younger people whom they employ, and a few words of guidance from them might prevent vandalism of the' bottle-throwing variety.—Yours, etc.. FRED T. MILES. Ashburton, August 7, 1960.
