GENEVA,- August 7. The International Commission of Jurists today disclosed Communist Chinese killing, torture, rape, abduction and forced sterilisation in Tibet during the last 10 years in a 340-page report based mostly on accounts by Tibetan refugees who fled to India after the last revolution. It was drafted by an 11-member international committee on Tibet, headed by Purshottom Trikamdas, senior advocate at tiie Supreme Court of India. The commission is a private organisation of judges lawyers and law professors from non-Communist parts of the world. The Dalai Lama told the committee the entire male and female population of two or three villages were forcibly sterilised “under the pretext of preventing certain epidemic diseases.” Sterilisation was first practised “on an experimental basis” in the town of Chuni (population 2000) in the Amdo Province in 1957. “The Communist Chinese administered certain injections on men and women in order to make them impotent,” the Dalai Lama said. “They also forced upon them certain other treatments to make the male and female reproductive organs functionless. The treatment resulted in several deaths in Chuni.” Numerous refugees told the commission they were subjected to extremely painful “treatment” which made them sterile. The Dalai Lama said at least 10,000 Tibetan children were taken to China—more than 3000 from Lhasa alone. Only SOO had re-
turned. The others had never even been heard/rom. Another ' witness said: “The people were told that new-born babies belonged to the Communists and were to be looked after by the Chinese.” , The witness and his wife were both sterilised. He described the operation and said the Chinese told him it “would make him more intelligent and would be beneficial to his brain.” Nearly all witnesses described scenes of rape, torture and brutal killing. In many cases, it was said. Tibetan women were raped by Chinese disguised as anti-Com-munist guerrillas, to discredit the whole anti-Communist movement. A 28-year-old peasant from the Amdo region said head lamas were arrested and repeatedly humiliated in public.
