MRS H. CABOT LODGE
Remaining In Background
“A gracious woman with culture, tradition and modesty,’’ is how friends describe Mrs Henry Cabot Lodge, wife of the Republican nominee for Vice-Presi-dent in the forthcoming American elections.
Emily Sears Lodge, like her husband, is a member of a wealthy Boston family. She prefers to remain in the background as her husband pursues his political and diplomatic career. As the wife of the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mrs Lodge has been acclaimed as a charming hostess at social functions required of her. Now in her fifties, Mrs Lodge is a grandmother, but her youthful appearance gives ho hint of it.
Few Appearances Mrs Lodge has only 'limited experience on the political platform. During her husband’s campaign for election to the Senate from Massachusetts, she made only a few appearances. She likes to meet people but has little enthusiasm for speechmaking. Mr and Mrs Lodge have two sons. Both are graduates of Harvard University, like their father. The elder, 'George Cabot Lodge, a former newspaperman (as was his father), is now AssistantSecretary of Labour. Henry Sears Lodge, the younger son, lives at the family residence, a 14-room French provincial style house ih Beverley, Massachusetts.
