Stakes Increased

(New Zealand Press Association) \ ASHBURTON, August 8, An increase of £3OO in stake money and changes in conditions for three races at the October meeting were made by the Ashburton Trotting Club today. The main changes involve an increase of £2OO in stake money to £5OO for the Hinds Handicap and the running of the race in two divisions if the number of acceptors exceeds the safety number. ■ The race is over one mile and a half for horses assessed at 3min 33sec or better. The Mount Somers Handicap has been tightened two seconds to 3min 30sec for the mile and a half and stake money is increased from £525 to £6OO. An increase of £25 to £275 was mt de in the stake for the Chertsey Maiden Trot, over a mile and a half.

The president, Mr A. J. Nicoll, was re-elected unopposed for a further one-year term.
