RACE FOR GOLDEN CANDIDATE

Canterbury Stakes On Saturday (NJZ. Press SYDNEY, August 8. The smart New Zealand sprinter. Golden Candidate, is expected to have his first Australian race in the Canterbury Stakes in Sydney next Saturday. Golden Candidate, a seven-year-old, is a sprinter above the average, and is rated highly at 8-8 in the Epsom. He won four sprint races in New Zealand last season. His most recent win was in a seven-furlong weight-for-age race at Te Aroha on April 9. The trainer, W. Kelso, has Golden Candidate looking well, although he is riot yet in peak condition. Kelso said today there would be no definite decision on a Canterbury Stakes run for Golden Candidate until the owner had been consulted.
