CHEQUE SYSTEM EXTENDED

Trustee Savings Bank Regulations

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 8.

Two regulations gazetted last week are designed to bring trustee savings banks into line with the Post Office Savings Bank cheque system. One regulation authorises withdrawals of money from trustee savings banks (except the Waikato Savings Bank) by non-profit-making institutions by means of cheques or other approved orders. The other regulation allows payment of interest at 1 per cent on amounts withdrawn from trustee savings banks investment accounts within three months after the date of deposit.
