//£ Schoolboys Hand XJver Bullets f !r - // MELBOURNE, August 2. Melbourne police recovered dogdis of pistol and rifle bullets yesferday from schoolboys in 20 noltlsem suburban schools. They hat attended the schools to lectite on the danger of 740 ’detonators stolen from explosives gagazines in what they describe ijs a “detonator craze” among schoolboys and teen-agers. Boys at schools in the outer northern suburbs voluntarily handed over the live cartridges. They had been keeping them in their pockets as “souvenirs,” in ignorance of their dangers. Police also traced 45 of the stolen detonators. At least another 600, each of which could maim or kill, are still missing. The latest detonator theft occurred at a Preston quarry yesterday. Thieves broke the lock on a heavy steel door to force their way into a five-foot square stone-walled magazine. They took 90 detonators. Other detonator thefts occurred at Sunshine on Sunday, when 120 were stolen and at Templestowe some time before Saturday morning when 500 were stolen. •
