QUIET WOOL MARKET
Trading in wool is fairly quiet throughout the world at the moment, Winchcombe Carson reports.
Business in the Bradford tops market is slow, with prices generally steady. However, most topmakers are reported to be asking a penny a pound above market quotations. United States trade experts expect a pick-up in wool buying soon after the Australian sales resume. This will be due to the current low US. price of wool, compared with Australia, the recent high consumption of apparel wool, and the fact that stocks now are much lower than at this stage, last year. Guinness Lager.— Arthur Guinness Son and Company, brewers of stout for over 200 years, are planning to invade the British lager market, which has long been dominated by Continental brewers. The group has started production of lager beer at its brewery in Ireland, and has met with an encouraging response on the Irish market. Plans to export the lager to Britain are being made, and the company hopes to start selling its brand there sometime next year.
