Ski-ing CONGRESS FOR INSTRUCTORS
Institution Of Scheme
“This is the first time such a scheme has been attempted in New Zealand, and we hope that ski congresses will eventually become a New Zealand-wide project under the wing of the New Zealand Ski Association, thus bringing this country into line with other ski-ing countries,’’ said the president of the Canterbury Ski Association (Dr. W. M. Platts) last evening. Dr. Platts was reporting on the results achieved by a special ski instructors’ congress held by the Canterbury association last month. “The primary and most important object of the scheme was to ensure unification of an approved method of ski instruction, thereby obtaining continuity of teaching at all ski grounds and under all instructors,’’ said Dr. Platts. “A ski teachers’ training course was inaugurated at the same time based on the Austrian state scheme, whereby promising local ski-iers who wish to become ski instructors attend congresses over a period of three years before qualifying for their full ski instructor’s certificate. Until their three years, are completed, they are issued with provisional certificates,” he said. “There were teething troubles with this scheme, but the benefits achieved are such that the congresses will be continued. We hope that they will be a forerunner to a national scheme being instituted,” said Dr. Platts.
At the Canterbury Ski Association’s first congress. Miss W. Rose, Dr. Suzie Gaertner, R. Wyrsch, P. Hubrich E. Fersterer and W. Ruber were all fully certificated, said Dr. Platts. P. Baudinet and R. Copp were awarded provisional certificates.
