Wage Increases For Chemical Workers
Increases of l}d an hour in the wage rate for workers employed under the Canterbury, Otago, and Southland Chemical-manure and Arid-workers’ award are provided in a new award issued in the Court of Arbitration. The new rates, which will incorporate the effect of the Court’s 24 per cent, general wage order, will apply from June 7, and the order will remain in force until December 31 next year.
The award applies to workers engaged in the manufacture of manures and chemical fertilisers, and at the chemicals manufactured in ctanicnMertfUeer works.
New provisions in the wage rates are the increase from time-and-a-half to double time, for men required to enter and clean sulphur burners; pagtsnent of 3d an hour extra for men handling blood and bone into mixtures, Id an hour extra for those engaged in begging mixtures containing Hood and bone, and Id an hour extra for workers handling or using second-hand bags. Other provisions remain the same as in the old award.
