DEVELOPMENT OF FIJI
Plan Being Based On Burns Report (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright J LONDON, July 26. A development plan based on the recommendations of the Bums Commission on Fijian problems is being prepared, the Colonial Secretary (Mr I. Macleod) told the House of Commons last night. Decisions on many of the minor recommendations in the report had been reached but on major issues the Fijian Government wanted ample time for discussion by all parties. Macleod was .giving a written reply to a question by Mr Thomas Iremonger (Conservative). Mr Iremonger asked what consideration was being given by the Fiji Government to the report and when Mr Macleod expected to be able to make a statement of policy regarding its recommendations. The report was to be considered by Provincial councils at special meetings this month, by the Council of Chiefs in August and by the Legislative Council in September or October, said Mr Macleod. “In the meantime, a development plan based on the recommendations in the report is peing prepared,” he said.
