NELSON RAIL BILL

Mr Nash Seeks Passage Today

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 27.

The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) told the House of Representatives tonight that he wanted to get the Nelson Railway Authorisation Bill passed tomorrow. The Deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr Marshall) said the Opposition could not agree to suspend Standing Orders to enable the bill to be passed. This means the Opposition will fight the bill in all its stages tomorrow, and Mr Nash will have to take urgency or apply the closure to get the bill passed in tomorrow’s sitting. The Prime Minister also told the House he wanted to get the Republic of Ghana Bill passed tomorrow.

This is a non-controversial bill dealing with New Zealand’s legal relations with Ghana now that Ghana has become a republic. Mr Marshall said the Opposition would not oppose the bill.
