FANFANI’S CABINET
Four Former Premiers
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ROME, July 27. The new Italian Government, which President Gronchi will swear in today, includes four former Prime Ministers. Mr Amintore Fanfani, who will be sworn in as Prime Minister, has held the post twice before—in 1954 and 1958. With the support of four middle-of-the-road parties, including his own Christian Democrats, he is assured of Parliamentary approval of his programme and Cabinet. He is leader of the large Left-wing faction of the Christian Democrats. The other Prime Ministers are Messrs Segni (Foreign Minister), Mario Scelba (Interior) and Guiseppe Pella (Budget). The new Cabinet does not include the out-going Prime Minister, Mr Tambroni, whose acceptance of neo-Fascist support led to the Communist-inspired riots earlier this month, in which 10 persons died. Ten of Mr Tambroni’s Ministers have been kept on in their same posts, including the Minister of Defence, Mr Giulio Andreotti. All the Ministers are members of the Christian Democrat Party, Italy’s largest political party, which has ruled the country alone or in coalition since World War 11.
