Town Hall Site
Sir, —I suggest that Madras street be continued through Latimer square and the land taken for this purpose would be reimbursed by closing the existing east and west roads around Latimer square and providing small access roads to the few properties concerned. Frontage strips would be taken from the east-side properties if further extension of the square is necesrary. The town hall could be built on the west side of Latimer square, on the sites occupied by wooden buildings and an empty section, between Worcester and Gloucester streets —a lovely site facing a spacious parade ground. The rear of the town hall could be extended to link up with the Civic Theatre and offices through the rear of properties facing Worcester and Gloucester streets. Eventually the whole block could be acquired and the properties not required for town hall or civic purposes would produce valuable revenue.—Yours, etc., CENTRAL CIVIC CENTRE. July 19. 1960.
