IMPROVED POLICE COMMUNICATIONS

New Equipment For Teleprinter Network (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 20. Switching, equipment, to speed up the transmission of messages on the police teleprinter network was installed in the Wellington Central Station, today. The Minister of Police (Mr Connolly) said the new equipment would enable a message from Auckland, Palmerston North or Christchurch—the three districts at present linked directly by teleprinter to Wellington—to be sent direct! between any two of these districts. All messages would continue to be channelled through Wellington but re-typing of messages by Wellington would no longer be necessary.
