PET SHEEP MUTILATED

Destroyed After Dog’s Attack

A pet sheep, in lamb, was so badly savagea by a dog on a Marshland farm on Monday night that it had to be destroyed. The sheep was the property of Mr L. G. Watson, a farmer, of 216 Prestons road. It was the pet of his five children. Mr Watson, who has a milk round, returned to his farm about 9 a.m. on Tuesday after completing his deliveries and found the sheep, terribly mutilated, lying on its side. There were gashes on the back of the neck where the dog’s fangs had bitten deep into the flesh. It is thought the dog held on while the animal ran about trying to shake it off. There were other injuries on the rump and about the knees.

Neither Mr Watson nor any members of his family heard a disturbance on Monday night. ' “I thought that the dogs which were mauling sheep in the district had all been taken care of,” Mr Watson said yesterday. He reported the matter to the Shirley police.
