WORLD CUP SERIES

Mr H. King Nominated As N.Z. Manager

A former chairman of the Canterbury League Board of Control, Mr H. A. King, has been nominated as manager of the New Zealand team for the World Cup series to be held in England in September. This nomination was decided on at last evening’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League. The chairman, Mr L. R. Huston, said that Mr King’s nomination was a worthy one, as he had been associated with the code in Canterbury since 1914, when he took part in the first schoolboy match held in Christchurch. Mr Huston said that Mr King had served a term of eight years as chairman of the board of control, and was now president of the Canterbury Referees* Association. The meeting also nominated Mr T. Hardwick (Waikato) as coach of the team. Mr Hardwick was coach of the New Zealand team on the tour of Australia last season, and Is a former New Zealand captain.
