Lieutenant-Commander T. K. M. Markwick, senior sea cadet ! officer in New Zealand, has re- ' tired from command of the Auck- ‘ land Sea Cadet Corps. He will continue to serve as a super- ' numeracy officer and as a member of the New Zealand Sea Cadet ' Controlling Authority. Messrs F. Archer, of Mapua, ‘ and J. R. Talbot, of Motueka. 1 have been appointed members of the Thomas Cawthron Trust Board. Mr J. F. Churstain. a member of the field staff of the Department of Labour in Christchurch, has resigned to take up a position as a school transport officer with the Education Department in the city. Yesterday he was bidden farewell by the staff of the Labour Department. Mr D. T. King, deputy senior overseer of the construction branch of the Chief Post Office, Christchurch, will retire from the department on July 19, after 40 years service. Mr King started as a lineman on July 20, 1920, and progressed over the years to foreman. overseer, and then to his present position of deputy senior overseer.
Mr L. J. Matthews, principal scientific officer, Department of Agriculture. Wellington, one of New Zealand’s leading weed control scientists, has been invited to address the first National Australian Weeds Conference as a guest of the Australian Government. The conference will be held at Canberra from August 1 to August 4. Mr Matthews will give the conference a paper on the results achieved in New Zealand with the practical' application of weed killers as distinct from experimental results.
