Juventas And Dowdex (New Zealand Press Association) HAWERA, July 3. The second day of the Egmont Racing Club’s winter meeting opened in spectacular fashion when Ourdex (D. C. Shearman) fell at the first fence in the first race, the Tangahoe Hack Hurdles', and was so badly injured he had to be destroyed. His rider was cut about the head and suffered concussion, being admitted to the Hawera Hospital, where his condition wag reported today as satisfactory. The meeting was held in fine weather, but with the track very heavy. The attendance was slightly down compared with that for the second day last year. The winnihg double, Juventas— Dowdex, paid £97 10s for £l. The totalisator on-course handled £35,513 10s, compared with £36,176 last year, a decrease of £1202 10s.
