But in spite of this clear cut win Marlborough did not impress as a team likely to retain more than a shaky grip on the major trophy, the Seddon Shield. Marlborough’s main strength again lay in loose forward play and it was bustling tactics which carried the % half-time Marlborough led »-3. Trice for Marlborough were acored by M. Surgenor. 3. Green and A. Patey. Patey kicked two penalties and converted one try. For Nelson. C. Saxton scored a try and M. Delaney kicked a penalty.
