26-Acre Hillside Subdivision i Details of a 26-acre hillside subdivision of 112 sections, opening up a large area of land from Centaurus road up the hillside and parallel with Bowenvale avenue, were* laid before the Heathcote County Council for comment by the Lands and Survey Department, at the council’s meeting. “This is a staggering subdivislon—the biggest laid before the council in my time,” said the chairman (Mr R. A. Young). After a technical discussion, the subdivision was approved. Colombo Street Intersection.— The inter-change of present giveway and compulsory stop signs at the Colombo street-Dyers Pass road - Centaurus , road - Cashmere road intersection will be sought by the council. It was decided to apply to the Transport Department to have a compulsory stop sign erected on the Cashmere road side of the intersection, and; a give-way sign erected at the! Centaurus road side. The change was suggested by Cr. J. C. Holliss. I who said that the Cashmere .road approach was the dangerous one, whereas the Centaurus road approach gave a wide, open view of the ' intersection. Curries Road Footpaths.—The condition of footpaths in Curries road, recently broken up by a bulldozer, was “a definite hazard” to pedestrians, claimed the Hillcote Improvement Society in a letter to the council. The society 1 aSjked that the reformation of the footpaths be treated as urgent. There was no intention of leaving the footpaths in the present condition, said the county engineer (Mr E. F. Johnson). Work would be started next week, and would be completed within a month. Local Government Commlaalon, —ln order that the council can be represented by Mr A. C. Perry, who is at present in England to conduct an appeal before the Privy Council, it was decided to seek an adjournment of the hearing of an appeal lodged by the council against the final reorganisation scheme of the Local Government Commission, set down for hearing on August 3. Curries Road Reserve.—The council will approach two land-! owners in Curries road with a proposal to acquire a part of their properties to enable enough land to be obtained for a full-sized bowling green as part of the reserve, and to enable a pavilion to be properly sited. Fire Board Contributions. —The Christchurch Fire Board advised the council that the total amohnt payable to the board by combined local authorities for 1960-61 is £48,500, of which the council's share is £1644. The council’s contribution last year was £1760. Council's Funds.—Although the county’s funds showed a credit balance of £15,109 as at June 27, the position was not as good as it looked, said the chairman (Mr R. A. Young). Of the amount, about £12,000 had to be paid to the State Electricity Department, and there would probably be an overdraft by the time the rates started to come in, he said. Progress League Grant.—The council agreed to grant £25 to the Canterbury Progress League. It also granted £3 3s to the Young Women's Christian Association. Hydatids Dosing—Of 15 dogs dosed for hydatids control in a house-to-house trial in the vicinity of Hackthorne road, all had returned negative tests, reported the Banks Peninsula hydatid .control committee. ,
