Council Supports Pulp Mill

Crs. R. A. Young and J. R. Scott were appointed by the Heathcote County Council last evening to represent it in a deputation to the Prime Minister to press Canterbury’s claims for a proposed pulp and paper mill. The council passed a resolution supporting the establishment of such an industry in Canterbury, but stipulated that its representatives should inquire into any possible river pollution by discharge of effluent from a mill. If there was to be any river pollution by noxious effluent, the industry could be more of a liability than an asset, said Cr. R. F. Shepard.
