TROTTING Scottish Star Heads Colonial-Bred Sires

Scottish Star, a son of U. Scott, is the leading colonial-bred sire of three-year-old pacers this season and he is in sixth place on the list of money-winning sires in this age group.

Scottish Star, an outstanding performer for Mr W. Hoekink, of Waiuku, served fewer than 10 mares in the 1955-56 season. He has had only two starters among the three-year-olds and both of them.have been winners.

Danty Star is the bestperformed three-year-old in the North Island and she has had 38 starts for four wins and 10 placing* worth £1783 10s. Fitment, a stablemate of Danty Star, has so far won three races and recorded seven platings for £787 10s. Fitment Is engaged at the Cambridge meeting today and he could well extend his record. Altogether Danty Star and Fitment have had 46 starts for seven wins and 17 platings worth £3560.

Two other colonial-bred sires with a 100 per cent, average have been Brahman and Adorian. Like Scottish Star. Brahman served fewer than 10 mares in the 1955-56 season, but he has had two starters, both of which won races. They have had 20 starts tor flve wins and three platings worth £lB5O All but £lOO of this has been won by Mystic Star, which showed outstanding Improvement towards the end of the season. Brahman’s other winner has been Slick Chick, which gained one Win from five starts. Brahman is a son of two former champions in Gold Bar and Haughty, both of which bettered two minutes. Brahman showed outstanding form, but, unfortunately, an accident cut short his race career

N.Z. Cup Winner Adorian is sixth among the colonial-bred sires as far asstake earnings are concerned. This well-bred stallion had 12 live foal* from 14 matings in the 1955-56 season, but only two of them got to the races. They were Commonwealth, which won three races and recorded placings on the Blenheim-Nelson circuit last month, and Anama, which gained a win and a placing from eight starts. Both have shown sufficient ability to win further later qn. Adorian is a half-brother by Springfield Globe to Morano. Vigilant and, Forward Adorian was an outstanding performer and numbered the 1953 New Zealand Cup among bis 12 wins. Light Brigade's three-year-olds have enjoyed greater success in the past than they did this season when to date they have had 83 starts for 11 wins, apd nine platings worth £2147 IBs. He had 12 starters and seven indlvldual winners, two of which have been trotters and include the New Zealand Trotting Stakes winner. Winterlight. The other has been Bonny Rachael, the only trotter of her age to win twice, Most of Light Brigade’s winners raced for small stakes at minor meetings, and most of those successful were in maiden pacers' races winning divisions A number of them have shown fine promise and they -should continue, to add to the - fine record of their sire in the next few seasons.

Medorp. now dead, has had only two runners, both of which raced in the North Island They are Yarki and Baby Trust. Yarki has had 27 starts for five wins and five platings worth a miserable £1272 10s, while Baby Trust has had two wins and six platings from 12 starts and earned £617 10s.

Flying Song, a Bon of Volemite. has had 17 individual starters 13 of which have had sig or less race starts. Four have had' only ohe start and four oply two.

Won Five Races Flying Song has had three individual winners of seven races, flve of which have been credited to< Rustic Lad, which earned £1395 of the £1872 won by his progeny. A high opinion is held of Rustic Lad in Southland. His final win for the season was in the Hawera Cup. He is expected to strike worthwhile handicap form next season. Flying Song's other winners have been Devant and Flying Look, while Modern Song and Rosonga were place-getters. Flying Song was extensively patronised in his first season at the stud and he was mated with 60 mares for 68 live foals. , Whipster has had four starters, two of them winning races. Massacre has had 22 starts for three wins and seven platings worth £1062, while Whipdale has gained' one win and six placings from 13 starts and earned £537 His other starters have been Estimation, with one appearance. and Whist, with four appearances. Meadow Chief, another sire represented for the first time by three-year-olds, did not have a particularly successful season, but a number Of his progeny look likely to develop worthwhile winning form later on. He has had 17 starters and four individual winners of six races and 10 platings worth £1142 10s. His best winner has been Peebles, which has had three wins and four platings from 13 starts and earned £823 Like many of the new sires. Meadow Chief has had many three-year-olds which were lightly raced. Sires, the three-year-olds of which earned more than £lOO. arei—
