Australia Makes Its Position Known IN.Z Press Association—conyngnt) WASHINGTON, June 30. Australia today expressed concern to the United States over a Congressional proposal to impose sharp increases on American import duties on. lead and zinc. The Australian Ambassador (Mr Howard Beale) made his Government’s position known during a 20-minute call on the Under-Secretary of State (Mr Douglas Dillon). Responsible United States officials said the Under-Secretary had told the Ambassador that the Administration was strongly opposed to the projected measure. The amendment would almost double, the existing tariffs on nrjany classes of lead and zinc imported into the United States. It „also proposes the imposition of additional duties on lead and zinc imports if the prices of those two metals fall below certain levels on the New York market.*
