SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT RATES

System Of Control Suggested ‘ (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. Social Security benefit rates should be controlled by a similar system to wages, Mr D. M. Rae (Opposition, Eden) said in the House of Representatives today. Mr Rae said one of the greatest dangers to the country was the practice followed by the Labour Party in making extravagant promises to increase Social Security benefits in an .attempt to win the Treasury benches. He said he believed any increases should be based on reports from the Arbitration Court and these could be acted upon by the Government. Parliament would still have the power to make the final decision on any increase.
