Pensioners’ Cottages
Sir, —I am on the old age pension and have had my name in for a single male pensioner’s cottage, and where in the world have they all gone to? It beats me and a lot more. It seems to me that the chosen few get them, not the ones that should have them. It is about time the single men had their own pensioners' cottages. You are all too lazy to build them.—Yours, etc., d. McCullough.
June 20, I 960; [The Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) said that 262 units erected by the council were alreaAr occupied and 118 additional { units were in the course of construction. The waiting list included the names of 425 women pensioners and 12 men pensioners, which would appear to justify precedence for accommodation for women. "Incidentally, the writer’s name does not appear among the waiting male applicants,” said Mr Feast.]
