Hoardings

Sir.—The thanks of the residents of Cashmere go to “The Press’ * for its recent leading article in support of the correspondents who have found reason to complain of the advertisements on bus seats. It would be interesting to know how much revenue the Transport Board derives from these seats and what proportion of it is paid to the Heathcote County Council. Many Cashmere residents believe the time has arrived for the formation of a citizens’ association which would promote the progress and well-being of a residential area whiob once was proud to claim that it was the best suburb of Christchurch.— Yours, etc..

L. L. SMITH. June 23, 1960. [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) replies: “These seats were put in by agreement of the Heathcote County Council, and it is nothing to do with the Transport Board. The board derives no revenue whatever from these seats,”] [The Heathcote County Clerk (Mr R. W. Morris) said: “The Christchurch Transport Board derives no revenue from these bus seats, and, if the seats are permitted to remain, the revenue will be paid direct to the Heathcote County Council.”]
