Poultry For Pacific Frozen poultry is being shipped to Fiji and Western Samoa by a South Island poultry processing firm. The firm has been fulfilling orders for the last 15 months by every ship thdt has left Lyttelton for the Islands. The company has also started a market for chicken livers in half pound packs and chicken giblets in one pound packs in the Pacific Islands. x Rubyfish “Identified A pink-coloured fish, rather like a bream but not so deep in the body, which was caught in 80 fathoms-of water in the Bay of Plenty has been identified as a rubyfish,. The fish was caught by Mr B. Tilby, master of the Auckland fishing vessel Viking, and sent by the Marine Department to the Dominion Museum, Wellington. Mr J. Moreland, the museum ichthyologist, said the rubyfish was an uncommon species usually found in small shoals in the winter months. It grew to -about two feet and occurred also off the Australian and South African coasts. Beer As Antidote One of the best antidotes for anyone who has been subject to ammonia fumes was beer, said Mr S. M. Blanch, a design engineer, at a conference of the Auckland branch of the National Safety Association. “That,” he said, “could be one of the reasons it is used in breweries in such large quantities—the antidote is always on hand.” Vehicles Checked “In an endeavour to get cars in shape before, the winter, the Transport Departrtfent carried out a systematic check on warrants. brakes, and lights in the borough and county areas during March, April, and May.” said Traffic Officer J.
