Compulsory Scheme Ends In Australia (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, June 30. National service training ends at midnight tonight The end ot the compulsory scheme will come when the last man leaves his depot, ending his three years of national service training. Since the national service scheme began in 1951, 195.000 youths have been given military training, a quarter of them in Victoria. Instructors will now go to other units, and to the reorganised' voluntary units. Regular Army officers hope that a substantial number of men will remain with the citizen's forces, and provide the nucleus of -an effective defence force in a national emergency.
