“ENCORE” AT YONKERS

i Caduceus’s Good Position ■ (N.Z Press Assoctattra—Copyrtoht) NEW YORK, June 30. I The New Zealand pacer, CaduIceus, this evening faces his last I test against the top American and Canadian horses that made up the fields for the International Space series at Yonkers Raceway. The New Zealand horse ran a I fourth, a third and a dead-heat first in the International races ' but had his first placing taken away from him on protest for i having interfered with two horses. Tonights’ 25,000-dollars “Encore International” is over eight furlongs, and Caduceus goes to the barrier with an American driver, Billy Haughton, handling the reins instead of his regular driver, Jack Litten. * Litten, the New Zealand driver and also the trainer of Ca,duceus, has left' New York on a sightseeing tour of the United States before returning home. The owner, Mr * Dudley Moore, who himself will return home shortly, is believed to be ready to sell or lease Caduceus in the United States. The New Zealand bay has impressed racing fans in spite of his defeats in the International races. Litten Blamed Sporting writers generally have blamed Litten’s driving for the horse’s showings, arguing that with an American driver in the seat, Caduceus could be expected to beat most of the field, except perhaps the world mile record-holder Bye Bye Byrd and Widower Creed. Caduceus. Bye Bye Byrd and Widower Creed are once again the favourites in tonight’s race. Caduceus gets off from number two barrier, rated a big advantage over the mile. He has a fast beginner alongside him. Speedy Pick, in the number one position, and Widower Creed is on the other sidg. Bye Bye Byrd has drawn the extreme outside at number seven. Last week the wide draw enabled him to miss the interference caused by Caduceus at the start that marred the race, putting Widower Creed and O'Brien Hanover right out of the running and leading to four protests. This- week with Haughton handling Caduceus, the start is expected to be a clean one.
