CUSTOMS RETURNS FOR JUNE
Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch in June was £928.043, compared with £836,132 last year. Customs and excise was £65.552 higher at £540,916, while sales tax was £8754 higher at £213,147. Total, with figures for June last year in parenthesis, are: Customs and excise, £540,916 (£475,364); petrol tax. £170.192 (£152,339); tyres, £570 (£163); sales tax. £213,147 (£204,393); light dues, £1330 (£1253); miscellaneous. £lBBB (£2620). AUCKLAND Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Auckland during June totalled £2.849,871, compared with £2,575,838 in June of last year. Details are: Customs, £1,282.259 (£1,180.695); petrol tax, £475,755 (£450.365); tyre duty, £1750 (£2453); sales tax, £492,645 £540.355); other duties, £597,442 (£401,700). Collections during the six months of the callendar year totalled £15.722,111, compared with £15,045,387 in the first half of 1959. DUNEDIN Customs figures for the Port of Otago during June, with last year’s in parenthesis, are:— Customs, £205,179 (£225,839); sales tax, £65,563 (£94,086); tyres, £276 (£87); petrol, £79,345 (£72,404); other, £140,363 (£98,204); total, £490,725 (£490,620).
